Dearest Gee.

Well, kid, I’m still hanging around. Had a few narrow escapes but reckon I’m still supposed to come back to the States when this is over. The trouble is, this ain’t over yet, is it?

I was sure glad to get those two letters from you yesterday. Then I got your Dec. 8 last night. The one that pleased me the most was the one saying you had received the first of my letters. At least you are getting some now. Sorry as hell that you weren’t the first to hear, kid, I wanted you to be. You’re liable to have to want for a lot of things, kid. I’ll do my best but you know the story.

Chick said in his letter that someone hollered at him but he didn’t know who it was. I’ll have to tell him it was Vern.

Hope you don’t get the flu. Take care of yourself. How’s Francy + Billy? Sure love you.

So long.
