Dearest Gee.

Well, I can let you know I have visited Rome now. The Germans didn’t have time to do any destroying there so it is pretty much the way it has always been. Lt. Smallwood and I rode all over town in a captured German truck so we really made the rounds. The people are very friendly but hungry. It seemed almost like Chicago except everyone was jabbering something you couldn’t understand. Before I go on, I want to thank you for those two packages of candy and peanuts. Also please thank [Aunt] Carrie and Rudy for their package. It had Mom’s return address on the outside but a card on the inside with Carrie and Rudy’s name. I have managed a few souvenirs for you. Among them are three cameo pins. One isn’t so good, but the other two are I think. They are already mounted. Now if I can just send it to you. Also have another surprise for you as you will soon see. While in Rome I saw the Colosseum, Arch of Constantine, St. Peter’s Cathedral (that sure is beautiful) and so many others I don’t remember all their names but I have postcards of them for future reference. Did I ever wish for my camera! I suppose by the time I get it there will be nothing to take pictures of. I’ll continue this on another v-mail. Hope you get them at the same time.

Love.
